On Thursday June 9, 2022, Special Olympics Athlete Marco Martinez and his flanking support crew of dedicated Law Enforcement Officers carried the Special Olympics Torch as part of the Spring Sports Festival that is put on by the Special Olympics Southern California. Officers form both Seal Beach and Long Beach coordinated a run that spanned from the harbor area, through the streets of Long Beach and all the way to a conclusion at Legends Sports Bar. As they rounded the corner onto 2nd Street, the crowds cheered as they made their way to Legends Sports Bar, where Manager John Peterson and staff awaited with refreshments and a cheering bar full of patrons.
“As a community that embraces all Athletes, and after several years of eagerly awaiting this event to return, we are honored to be the final stopping point along the journey of the Special Olympics Torch in support of the Spring Sports Festival.” said Peterson.
Special Olympics Bowler Marco Martinez played up the crowd by shaking hands and letting patrons snap pictures with him as he brought his crew together for a final group shot. Marco, who is no stranger to Legends Sports Bar, took a moment to pose next to the Mosaic that he made and gifted to Legends Sports Bar several years prior.
On behalf of Legends Sports Bar, thank you to all who gave us the honor or receiving you for this end of run celebration!
